Brazilwood (Caesalpinia echinata)
Brazilwood or Pau-Brasil is found typically in the Brazilian rainforest, in the region known as the Mata Atlântica or Atlantic Forest. This tree can reach a height from 8-30 meters (about 26 to 98 feet); the trunk can be between 30-70 cm of diameter (about 12-28 inches). Its wood is heavy, compact and resistant. [1] One of the most important characteristics is that inside the trunk its present an extract that forms a red-like color highly demanded in the past. [2]
